Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease that produces itchy patches known as scales. Cells in scales can divide up to 5 times as fast as healthy cells. It is an immune mediated inflammatory disease, much like arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. They share in common unknown causes and therapeutic based treatment instead of outright cures. A common trend in these diseases is high oxidative stress due to activation of phagocytic white blood cells, particularly macrophages and neutrophils, which use oxidative chemicals to attack pathogens (1).

For Psoriasis there are a set of signaling proteins known to affect the progression of the disease that are susceptible to oxidation. It has been shown that antioxidant treatment has proven to be helpful in attenuating these cell signal pathways and provide therapeutic benefits (2). Fatty acids are also susceptible to oxidation and have a role in psoriasis. It was found that when fatty acid oxidation, cause by an enzyme known as CPT-1, was inhibited psoriasis patients had a better prognosis (3).

Juvinium is able to deliver high levels of antioxidants directly to psoriatic plaques and patches. Once there Juvinium will protect cell signaling proteins and fatty acids from oxidation. Juvinium can be applied as a topical patch and will function alongside corticosteroids, paricalcitol, Vitamin D and other topical preparations. Oxidation occurs when molecules lose electrons in the examples above electron loss is prevented by providing sacrificial molecules which prevents an enzyme from oxidizing. Juvinium provides electrons directly to oxidizing agents and acts as a shield to important molecules.
